Duafe
The Duafe is more than a beautiful design—it’s a story.
The Duafe is an Adinkra symbol from the Akan people of Ghana and its name literally translates to “wooden comb.” But it was never just about combing hair. The wooden comb symbolized self-care, dignity, patience, love, and the quiet confidence that comes from honoring yourself. In Akan culture, taking care of your appearance reflected taking care of your character.
As Black women, our hair has always been more than just hair. It’s history, identity, culture... its resistance! The Duafe reminds us that caring for ourselves isn’t vanity—it’s an act of self-respect.
